The Mech. Repair & Maintenance of Light Vehicles trade is a job-oriented program under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS). About the Course
This trade focuses on developing skills for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining light motor vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans. Trainees learn how to handle various mechanical, electrical, and electronic components found in modern vehicles.

Progression Pathways
- Apprenticeship Programmes in automobile industries leading to National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).
- Progress to Diploma in Automobile Engineering.
- Open a private vehicle repair and maintenance workshop.
- Promotion to supervisory roles in large workshops or service centers.
Skills Covered in Training
Semester – I
- Understanding safety rules, personal protective equipment (PPE), and first aid.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
- Basic fitting work, drilling, and tapping.
- Service and maintenance of petrol engines.
- Repair and maintenance of steering, suspension, and brake systems.
- Understanding vehicle bodywork and chassis maintenance.
Semester – II
- Overhaul of diesel engines.
- Repair and maintenance of transmission systems (clutch, gearbox, differential).
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical systems like starting, charging, lighting, and ignition systems.
- Understanding fuel injection systems in both petrol and diesel engines.
- Emission control systems and pollution norms.
- Wheel alignment, balancing, and tyre maintenance.
Certification
After completing the course and passing the All India Trade Test (AITT), candidates receive the National Trade Certificate (NTC) by NCVT, recognized across India and abroad.
