Overview

The ITI Trade: Mason (Building Constructor) is a job-oriented vocational training programme offered under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS), powered by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). This trade prepares candidates for both government and private sector employment, while also empowering them to pursue self-employment opportunities.
The course is meticulously designed to meet the industrial requirements of both Indian and International construction sectors.

Role of a Mason (Building Constructor)

A Mason (Building Constructor) is responsible for constructing and repairing building structures such as walls, arches, chimneys, floors, pillars, and more. They work with bricks, mortar, cement concrete, and other construction materials. The role involves:

  • Site development and clearance
  • Preparation and support for brick/block laying
  • Mixing mortar and concrete
  • Plastering and rendering coats
  • Plumbing-related tasks
  • Knowledge of scaffolding
  • Understanding of environmental, health, and safety practices in construction

Key Skills & Competencies Developed

✅ Recognize & comply with safe working practices, environmental regulations, and housekeeping standards
✅ Perform basic woodwork using carpenter’s tools
✅ Plan, organize, and construct masonry brick walls according to drawings and specifications
✅ Construct walls with spaces for doors and windows
✅ Perform RCC casting, rod cutting, bending, binding, and placement
✅ Mix and compact concrete in various proportions
✅ Construct cavity walls
✅ Lay out building plans and conduct diagonal checks for accurate excavation lines
Wall and ceiling plastering, smoothing surfaces with screeds and floats
✅ Create different types of flooring with slope determination and formation
✅ Lay drain pipes, jointing and fixing W.C. pans, urinals, gully traps, and manholes
✅ Construct septic tanks, fix and fit washbasins, flushing cisterns, sinks, and vent pipes
✅ Construct stone walls, including cutting, chamfering, and beveling
✅ Lay marble flooring on stairs and floors with marking and cutting for precision
✅ Build circular brick walls and hollow block walls
✅ Prepare and mix concrete, set up formwork, cut and bend bars, and cast roof slabs, beams, lintels, stairs, and columns
✅ Cut and install glazed wall tiles
✅ Lay mosaic, terrazzo, and tile flooring
✅ Construct RCC and brick stairs
