Trade Summary (Syllabus Outline)

Semester I

  1. Occupational Health & Safety: Learn basic safety rules and the importance of occupational health in dental labs.
  2. Dental Team Responsibilities: Understand the roles and responsibilities within a dental healthcare team.
  3. Materials Handling: Weigh various metals and alloys used in dental prosthetics.
  4. Temperature & Electrical Monitoring: Measure temperatures, monitor their effects, and apply accurate voltage systems to operate dental lab machinery safely.
  5. Dental Prosthesis Fabrication: Select and work with alloys for prosthesis fabrication.
  6. Gypsum Products & Dental Cements: Manipulate gypsum products and use dental cements effectively.
  7. Dental Wax & Impression Materials: Use dental waxes and impression materials for prosthetic development.
  8. Cast Preparation: Make diagnostic and master casts, special trays, occlusal rims, and articulate casts.
  9. Teeth Setting & Denture Processing: Perform teeth setting and process dentures, including repair and relining.
  10. Orthodontic Appliances:
    • Select wires and fabricate retentive components.
    • Create retractive and active components for orthodontic appliances.

Semester II

  1. Tooth Carving: Carve maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth, premolars, and molars.
  2. Duplication of Casts: Learn duplication techniques for dental casts.
  3. Concepts of Occlusion: Apply occlusion concepts on various dental casts.
  4. Partial Dentures: Classify partial dentures, construct immediate dentures, and removable partial dentures, including surveys and retention features.
  5. Orthodontic Fabrication:
    • Identify fixed components.
    • Fabricate oral screens, activators, and weld appliances.

Semester III

  1. Temporary Crowns: Fabricate temporary acrylic jacket crowns.
  2. Cast & Die Preparation: Prepare casts and dies for:
    • Fixed partial dentures.
    • Full metal crowns.
    • Full metal bridges.

Semester IV

  1. Prosthodontic Equipment: Familiarize with equipment used in fixed prosthodontics.
  2. Crown Mock-ups: Create mock-ups for anterior crowns.
  3. Copings & Dies: Fabricate copings and prepare die.
  4. Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns: Fabricate PFM crowns with precision.
