
Cosmetology Trade (One-Year Program)
Overview
The Cosmetology trade is a comprehensive, one-year vocational training program under the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS), powered by the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. The course equips trainees with Professional Skills, Professional Knowledge, and Employability Skills necessary for success in the beauty and wellness industry. In addition to practical and theoretical learning, candidates participate in project work, extracurricular activities, and on-the-job training, fostering confidence and industry readiness.
Training Objectives
Throughout the course, trainees will:
- Develop technical competencies in cosmetology services
- Acquire skills in hair care, skin care, makeup, nail care, and spa therapies
- Learn communication skills, entrepreneurial abilities, and safety practices
- Participate in industry projects and internships to gain hands-on experience

- Hair Structure and Haircutting Techniques
- Yogic Exercises for stamina building and posture correction
- Makeup Artistry: Day, Evening, Party & Bridal Makeup with lighting effects
- Hair Styling: Traditional hairstyles, use of thermal gadgets, and artificial aids
- Advanced Hair Treatments: Coloring, Perming, Straightening, Rebonding, Smoothening, with an understanding of hair bonds
- Body Art: Bindi creation, Mehendi (Henna) design, Temporary Tattoos
- Saree Draping in various regional styles
- Wellness Practices: Asanas for stress management, spine stretching, and relief from common ailments
Training System
The program is delivered through NCVT-recognized ITIs across the country and includes:
- Domain Training (Trade Theory & Practical): Core professional skills and knowledge
- Core Training (Employability Skills): Communication, workplace ethics, and life skills
- Certification: Upon successful completion, candidates receive the National Trade Certificate (NTC), recognized in India and internationally

1. Skin Care Specialist
- Provides skin treatments for face and body

2. Beautician
- Offers complete beauty treatments for skin, hair, and nails
- Provides facials, massages, hair removal, and cosmetic applications
- Performs haircuts, coloring, and scalp treatments
- Shapes eyebrows and eyelashes, and offers manicure/pedicure services
3. Assistant Beautician
- Supports beauticians in delivering basic services like facials, waxing, manicures, and pedicures
- Maintains salon hygiene and assists with client services
- Learns basic retail sales techniques for beauty products
4. Pedicurist and Manicurist
- Specializes in nail care for hands and feet
- Provides services including nail shaping, polishing, and treatment for nail disorders
5. Hairdresser (Ladies)
- Cuts, washes, styles, colors, and treats hair
- Specializes in ladies' hairstyles, including contemporary and traditional styles
- Provides scalp treatments and may offer basic nail services
6. Hair Stylist
- Creates custom hairstyles based on client needs or fashion trends
- Performs advanced coloring, perming, and styling techniques
- Styles wigs and hairpieces for theatrical or personal use
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, trainees will be able to:

- Perform hair removal services (epilation and depilation), and understand hair structure and growth
- Provide manicure and pedicure services, and identify nail disorders
- Conduct facial treatments tailored to common skin conditions
- Administer hair treatments for various hair and scalp problems
- Execute basic and advanced haircuts using specialized cutting techniques
- Demonstrate yogic practices to enhance physical well-being and posture
- Apply makeup for various occasions with attention to lighting and facial features
- Create traditional and modern hairstyles, incorporating thermal tools and extensions
- Perform hair coloring, perming, straightening, rebonding, and smoothening
- Design bindis, mehendi, and temporary tattoos; demonstrate saree draping techniques
Certification
- National Trade Certificate (NTC) awarded by DGT, valid globally
